Coach Profile

Rick Schupbach has coached girls golf in Iowa since 1983 and has been the coach of the Lady Spartan golf program since 1990. Coach Schupbach has had one of the most successful coaching careers in Iowa golf history, coaching his teams to 14 state appearances, including 10 state championships and 2 runner-up finishes. His overall record is 796-118-1 upon the completion of the 2007 season.

Since 1990 Schupbach has led the Lady Spartans to no worse than a 2nd place finish in the competitive NICL conference, including 14 conference titles during that span. During this same time the NICL has produced the state champion or runner-up team each of those years.

Coach Schupbach attributes his success in Grundy Center to a "team" approach. "I have truly been blessed to coach girls golf in Grundy Center. It has created some of the greatest memories of my life and helped me to establish some of the most impactful and meaningful relationships in my life as well."

"The success of our program is mult-faceted. It begins with quality young ladies who are willing to invest time and energy to become the best they can become. It flouishes because of great parent support, a strong junior golf program and a tremendous relationship with golf course staff and board. Coach Schupbach has been honored multiple times as district and state coach of the year and was one of 8 finalist for Girls Golf National Coach of the Year in 2007.
