Grundy Center Middle School PE Philosophy
At Grundy Center Middle School the challenge of teaching physical
education is balancing a health related and skill related approach to learning while enhancing the self-concept of the student.
The goal is to provide students with a program that uses futuristic methodology and technology designed to educate students
to lifestyle choices and consequences.
Middle school physical education is taught by using innovative teaching protocols.
Classical music is used to emphasize positive imagery and relaxation. A class management system called "The Ultra Shuffle"
is designed to provide a non-threatening environment for all students where the emphasis during activity is placed on individual
challenges, interaction, cooperative accomplishments, critical thinking, problem solving, skill development and application
of positive living skills. Technology is integrated into assessment by using Pocket PC's, Tri-Fit Assessment and the revolutionary
PE Manager Grading Program. Polar E600 heart rate monitor printouts of student activity and fitness patterns allow essential
visual feedback to reinforce concepts of positive living investments for students.
Grundy Center Middle School physical
education is constantly changing and evolving as a result of a commitment to the continual quest for "best practice." This
journey invariably leads to a search for new kinesthetic learning opportunities which will capture the imagination and
attention of the students. The result will be students that personally value and invest in their own physical activity and
health.
