Here are the Grade Level Expectations for Students in PE

Kindergarten  - PE Grade Level Expectations

 

Standard #1 Demonstrates competency in motor skills

A kindergartner will:

·   Jump on 2 feet

·   Dribble ball in a stationary position

·   Kick a ball from a stationary position

·   Catch a ball using hands & body

·   Throw a ball using one hand

·   Perform a stationary balance on a balance beam

·   Leap a hurdle

 

Standard #2 Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts and strategies.

A kindergartner will:

·   Follow rules of simple games

 

Standard #3 Participates regularly in physical activity.

A kindergartner will:

·   Actively participates in class

 

Standard #4  Achieves and maintains a healthy-enhancing level of physical fitness

A kindergartner will:

·         Move on a scooter continuously

·         Demonstrate high energy level during class

 

Standard #5 Demonstrates responsible personal and social behaviors in physical activity settings

A kindergartner will:

·         Show respect to others in class

·         Follow class rules and routines

 

First Grade  - PE Grade Level Expectations

 

Standard #1 Demonstrates competency in motor skills

A First grader will:

·    Hop continuously using right and left foot

·   Dribble ball using 1 hand

·    Kick a stationary ball using a walking or

      running approach

·    Catch a ball using hands only

·    Throw a ball overhand with one hand using side-

       orientation

·    Walk on a balance beam

·         Slide using right and left foot lead

 

Standard #2 Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts and strategies.

A first grader will:

·         Follow rules of simple games

·        Identify warm-up/exercise/cool down phases

 

Standard #3 Participates regularly in physical activity.

A first grader will:

·         Actively participates in class

 

Standard #4  Achieves and maintains a healthy-enhancing level of physical fitness

A first grader will:

·         Climb the rock wall

·         Demonstrate high energy level during class

 

Standard #5 Demonstrates responsible personal and social behaviors in physical activity settings

A first grader will:

·         Show respect to others in class

·         Follow class rules and routines

 

 

 

 

Third Grade- PE Grade Level Expectations

 

Standard #1 Demonstrates competency in motor skills:

A third grader will:

·         Leap an 18-inch hurdle

·         Jump rope while jogging

·        Dribble a ball using both right and  to left hand

·        Catch a ball while moving

·        Throw a ball using correct form for distance

·        Strike a ball with an object

 

Standard #2 Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts and strategies:

A third grader will:

·         Follow class rules and routines

·         Follow rules of lead up games

 

Standard #3 Participates regularly in physical activity:

A third grader will:

·        Participates in pedometer take home program.

 

Standard #4  Achieves and maintains a healthy-enhancing level of physical fitness

A first grader will:

·         Perform all stations on SOS Friday

·         Demonstrate high energy level during class

 

Standard #5 Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts and strategies:

A third grader will:

·         Follow class rules and routines

·         Show respect to teacher and others

 

 

Fourth Grade PE Grade Level Expecations

 

Standard #1 Demonstrates competency in Motor Skills:

A fourth grader will:

·         Demonstrate basic skills to participate in numerous games and activities

 

Standard #2 Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts and strategies

A fourth grader will:

·         Demonstrate strategy awareness to participate in team games.

·         Apply basic rules to all games.

·         Demonstrate knowledge of basic movement concepts

 

Standard #3 Participates regularly in physical activity:

A fourth grader will:

·         Obtains a 20 minute average in their target heart rate zone in class

·         Modify class activity level using heart rate monitors to average a minimum of 20 in or above personal target heart rate zone.

·         Sets goals for activity outside of class

 

Standard #4  Achieves and maintains a healthy-enhancing level of physical fitness

A fourth grader will:

·         Participates in health-related fitness testing

·         Model heart monitor use in class

·         Pass a health-related knowledge test.

·         Assess activity and physical fitness level by analyzing heart rate data and personal fitness testing results.

 

Standard #5 Demonstrates responsible personal and Social Behaviors in physical Activity Settings

A fourth grader will:

·         Demonstrates traits of character

·         Be a positive team and game enhancer

·       Demonstrate knowledge of class format and protocols

 

Second Grade- PE Grade Level Expectations

 

Standard #1 Demonstrates compentency in motor skills

A second grader will:

·         Skip

·         Gallop

·         jump a self-turned short rope

·         Dribble a ball with 1 hand while moving

·         Catch a ball thrown by a partner

·         Throw a ball using side orientation and opposition

 

Standard #2 Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts and strategies

A second grader will:

·         Follow rules of lead up games

·        Identify healthy life-style habits

 

Standard #3 Participates regularly in physical activity:

A second grader will:

·         Make a monthly fitness plan for the summer

 

Standard #4  Achieves and maintains a healthy-enhancing level of physical fitness

A first grader will:

·         Perform all stations on SOS Friday

·         Demonstrate high energy level during class

 

Standard #5 Demonstrates responsible personal and social behaviors in physical activity settings

A second grader will:

·         Follow class rules and routines

·         Show respect to teacher and others

·         Works well with others on SOS activities

Fifth Grade  - PE Grade Level Expectations

 

Standard #1 Demonstrates competency in Motor Skills:

A fifth grader will:

·         Demonstrate basic skills to participate in numerous games and activities

 

Standard #2 Demonstrates Understanding of Movement Concepts and Strategies:

A fifth grader will:

·         Demonstrate strategy awareness to participate in team games.
