Identify and organize a group of peole to pave the way for change within your distrct's P.E. program. Then identify long and
short-term goals to make it happen!
Become an Advocate
Prepare yourself with the facts on why quality,daily P.E. is so important to children's health and lifetime wellness. Cultivate
partnerships to help you advocate for cahnge in your community.
Develop your budget and identify funding opportunities
Determine how much each of your proposed changes will cost. Look within your school district for funding first. Then, explore
creative ways to find the funds you need to support your community.
Create the physical foundation for your program
Determine the best place to conduct your PE4life program. Think about creative ways to use available space;
then,determine how you want to build out your space to accommendate new activities. Set priorties and a timeline for acquiring
the equipment you'll need.
Design your program
Look for ways to embrace PE4life in your program to get all children active. Take a creative approach to existing sprots
activities by emphasizing movement, not athletic skills. Experiment with activities like kayaking, cross country skiing,juggling,and
team building exercises. Determine how you will stress the importance of lifetime physical activity.
Develop your plan to assess success
Make it a priority to measure students'progress. Make use of heart rate monitors,fitness testing,and helath assessments to
evaluate your student's overall health and wellness. Monitor progess over the course of days, weeks, and years.
Learn to troubleshoot and anticipate roadblocks
Recognize that you will encounter some challenges along the way as you move forward in developing your PE4life
program. Learn how to overcome negative perceptions aout P.E., funding issues, uncertainty in your community, and lack of
physical space in your school.
